A medical front desk is rarely doing one thing at a time. Staff are checking someone in, helping a patient at the desk, and answering calls when another line starts ringing. A patient calls to book, the call goes to voicemail, and by the time someone calls back, the patient has booked somewhere else.

Booking visits is only part of the work. Patients also call and text about insurance, refills, referrals, forms, results, and bills. The practice has its own list to work through too, including reminders, recalls, and follow-ups.

Assort Health and Hello Patient both build AI agents only for healthcare. Both run voice, text, and chat, inbound and outbound. Both handle the work behind those conversations, from scheduling and intake to triage, after-hours, refills, and follow-up. Their capabilities are close, and both take patient-data security seriously. The useful question is which company has proven its product in a setting like yours.

We build one of these products, so we are not a neutral judge. Assort's strongest public results are in specialty practices and health systems. Our published results span urgent care, primary care, specialty practices, and multi-location groups, with published proof across recall, referral follow-up, and the billing line. We also write every appointment our agents book directly into the EHR the practice already runs. The better fit depends on which track record looks more like your operation.

How we compared them

We reviewed each company's public product, integration, compliance, and customer pages using the same evaluation criteria. The Assort Health information was last checked on July 26, 2026 on Assort's own site. Because we publish this comparison, we point to Assort's original sources for the facts that matter most and keep the compliance language to what each company states publicly.

What Hello Patient does

Patients call to book or reschedule, ask about insurance, request refills, and pay bills. At the same time, the front desk has patients to contact for recalls and follow-up. Our AI agents handle both the inbound and outbound work.

Answer every call. When staff are in exam rooms or helping someone at the desk, the agents answer the calls that would otherwise ring out. They book visits, take refill requests, answer insurance questions around the clock, and route clinical conversations to your team.

Bring patients back. The agents contact patients for annual visits, overdue screenings, referrals, and follow-ups after a visit. They answer the questions that come up before rebooking and put the visit directly on the schedule. Across customers, recall and follow-up campaigns help practices book around 20% more appointments without adding staff.

Handle the billing line. When a patient calls about a charge, the agent explains it, answers questions about what insurance covered, and texts a secure payment link during the call. The patient doesn't wait on hold, and the front desk gets that time back.

Every appointment the agents book is written directly into the EHR and appears on the schedule your team already uses. Nobody has to enter it again. We connect to the systems practices already run, including ModMed, athenahealth, eClinicalWorks, and Veradigm.

Our published customer results span several kinds of work. At Pulse MD, a multi-location urgent care group, missed calls fell from 26% to zero in the first month. At Carbon Health, our agents answer every after-hours call across 81 clinics. On the billing line at Piedmont Urgent Care, the agents handle more than 20,000 billing calls a month and resolve close to half of them end to end, without staff involvement. In specialty care, Ortho1 Medical Group used our outbound referral agent to book 190 referral visits in the first two months without adding staff. We are HIPAA-compliant, SOC 2 Type 2 certified, and sign a BAA with every client.

What Assort Health is, and who it's built for

Assort Health builds AI agents for the whole patient journey and works only in healthcare. It groups the product into four suites.[1] Concierge handles inbound work such as scheduling, triage and routing, after-hours coverage, refills, patient FAQs, chatbot, and online scheduling. Activate handles outbound work, including patient reactivation, waitlists, rescheduling, care-gap closure, two-way texting, and payment resolution. Orchestrate automates back-office workflows such as intake, referrals, digital forms, insurance document processing, and post-visit follow-up. Empower provides operational insights, conversation summaries, and warm handoffs that pass context to staff when a conversation needs a person.

Assort supports more than 23 specialties, including orthopedics, dermatology, ophthalmology, women's health, pediatrics, primary care, ENT, urology, neurology, GI, and cardiology, and is expanding into health systems such as John Muir Health.[1] Much of its published customer proof comes from specialty practices. Assort reports that SENTA generated $1.3 million in additional appointment revenue while reducing hold time by 97%, from 6 minutes 36 seconds to 12 seconds. Chesapeake Health Care reduced hold time by 89% and generated more than $1 million in new revenue. At South Shore Orthopedics, Assort reports clearing a voicemail backlog of 600 to 1,000 messages to zero, with 45% of calls fully resolved by the agent.[1] Named customers include SENTA, Chesapeake Health Care, John Muir Health, U.S. Urology Partners, Michigan Orthopedic Surgeons, Peninsula Orthopaedic, and Annapolis Internal Medicine.[1]

Assort says its platform is built on more than 200 million patient interactions, 62,000 care protocols, and 1.6 million decision pathways.[1] It also highlights its athenahealth integration and names more than 20 bidirectional EHR and practice management system integrations.[1] Assort does not publish pricing.

Which one's track record fits your setting?

The products are close on capability. Both support voice, text, and chat, inbound and outbound, and neither is missing a channel the other has. The clearest difference for a buyer is where each company already has customers and published results that look like the setting being evaluated.

Assort's flagship public results come from specialty practices, and the company has a growing presence in health systems. A large specialty group or health system, especially one running athenahealth, has good reasons to look closely at Assort because its published track record maps directly to that setting.

Our published results span urgent care, primary care, specialty practices, multi-location groups, and the billing line. Pulse MD, a multi-location urgent care group, cut missed calls from 26% to zero in the first month. Carbon Health runs our agents across 81 urgent care and primary care clinics. Piedmont Urgent Care runs them on a centralized billing line handling more than 20,000 calls a month, with close to half resolved end to end. On billing specifically, we did not find a named customer result for a live billing phone line in the Assort public pages reviewed for this article, although Assort lists payment resolution as a workflow. We also have published specialty-care proof. Ortho1 Medical Group used our outbound referral agent to book 190 referral visits in two months without adding staff.

The better fit depends on which published results look most like your practice. If your workflows match ours, the full urgent care example is in the Pulse MD case study. See what Hello Patient would handle on your lines.

A demo usually shows a call going well. It may not show what happens when the agent can't finish a request or when a conversation starts by text or web chat instead of a phone call. Ask both companies the same questions, including us.

  • Can a patient start a conversation by phone, text, and web chat?
  • Which requests can the agent complete without staff involvement?
  • Does it write appointments directly into the EHR we use, and what exactly gets written?
  • Which outbound workflows are live with customers today?
  • How much of the billing line, recall, referral follow-up, and rescheduling can the agent complete end to end?
  • What counts as an automated call for billing purposes?
  • Can we speak with a customer on our EHR and in a practice like ours?

What to check if you are considering Assort Health

Assort Health is a strong platform, and for many practices it will be the right choice. It has deep athenahealth integration, strong published customer results in specialty practices, and a broad platform that spans inbound, outbound, and back-office workflows. A specialty practice, especially one running athenahealth, has good reasons to look closely.

If your practice looks different, confirm that the published proof matches your workflows. Ask for named customer results in urgent care or primary care, not only specialty practices. Confirm the EHR write-back into the exact system you run, not only athenahealth. Ask how much of the billing line, recall, referral follow-up, and outbound outreach the agents complete end to end. Ask to speak with a customer on your EHR and in a practice like yours.

These checks are not a knock on Assort. They are the same questions we recommend asking every vendor, including us.

On compliance, both companies publish a strong security posture. Assort states that it is HIPAA compliant, SOC 2 Type II certified, and operates under signed Business Associate Agreements with customers and downstream subprocessors.[1] We are HIPAA-compliant, SOC 2 Type 2 certified, and sign a BAA with every client. Any vendor that creates, receives, maintains, or transmits protected health information should provide its current BAA and security documentation as part of your evaluation.

Frequently asked questions

How is Hello Patient different from Assort Health?

The two are close on capability, so the main difference is proven track record. Both are healthcare-only AI agent platforms that run voice, text, and chat, inbound and outbound, and both take patient-data security seriously. Assort Health's flagship public results come from specialty practices and health systems, backed by what it calls the largest specialty-specific patient interaction dataset in healthcare AI. Hello Patient's public results come from urgent care, primary care, and multi-location groups, with a focus on the billing line and recall. It books every visit into the EHR the practice runs, including ModMed, athenahealth, eClinicalWorks, and Veradigm.

Is Assort Health built for healthcare?

Yes. Assort Health works only in healthcare, the same as Hello Patient. It builds AI agents for the patient journey across voice, text, and chat, inbound and outbound, covers more than 23 specialties, and is expanding into health systems. Its public customer proof is strongest in specialty practices such as orthopedics, urology, GI, and ENT. Hello Patient's public proof comes from urgent care, primary care, and multi-location groups, with named results at Pulse MD, Carbon Health, and Piedmont Urgent Care.

Is Assort Health HIPAA compliant, and does it sign a BAA?

Yes. Assort Health states on its site that it is HIPAA compliant and SOC 2 Type II certified, and that it operates under a signed business associate agreement, with downstream agreements across its subprocessors. Hello Patient is HIPAA-compliant and SOC 2 Type 2 certified. Both companies state a serious posture on patient-data security.

Does Assort Health work with our EHR?

Assort Health describes a deep athenahealth integration and names more than 20 bidirectional EHR/PMS integrations, so it is a strong fit for a practice that runs athenahealth. Hello Patient connects to the EHR the practice runs, including ModMed, athenahealth, eClinicalWorks, and Veradigm, and books every visit straight into it. A booking made by phone, text, or web chat lands in the schedule the front desk watches, and nobody re-enters it. Whichever vendor you evaluate, confirm the write-back into the exact system you run, not only the one it markets most.

Which one has better proof for urgent care or primary care?

Hello Patient, based on public customer results. Its agents run in urgent care, primary care, and multi-location groups. Pulse MD cut missed calls from 26% to zero in the first month. Carbon Health runs them across 81 urgent care and primary care clinics. Piedmont Urgent Care runs them on the billing line at more than 20,000 calls a month. Assort Health's public proof leads with specialty practices, where it reports strong results such as SENTA's $1.3M in added revenue. If your setting is urgent care or primary care, ask each vendor for named customers in that exact setting.

Does Hello Patient have proof in specialty practices?

Yes. Hello Patient is best known for urgent care and primary care, but its agents also run in specialty care. Ortho1 Medical Group used Hello Patient's outbound referral agent and booked 190 referral visits in its first two months, with no staff added. Assort Health's public proof still spans more specialties, so a specialty practice should ask both companies for named results in its specialty and on its EHR, then speak with a customer in a similar setting before deciding.
